BILL MORRISSEY
USGTF Level IV Member, Clarkes Beach, Newfoundland, Canada

My interest in the “game of a lifetime” started as a caddy at age nine, at Bally Haly Golf and Country Club in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The course is celebrating its 100th-year anniversary in 2008. It was a great job for a young boy who grew to love the game immensely. The course was located next to an American air force base called Fort Pepperell, and it afforded me an opportunity to caddy for and emulate the golf swings of a few excellent American golfers.

I enjoyed a successful amateur career, which included winning three provincial titles and participating in 10 Canadian amateur tournaments. After graduating from high school, I attended Sir George Williams University in Montreal, Quebec, spending little time at golf and concentrating more on my courses, as well as working part-time.

Eventually, I spent six years as a golf teacher at the Kennedy Greens Golf Complex in Markham, Ontario, and another five years at the Toronto Indoor Golf Academy in Tornoto, Ontario. In 1998 I was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Golf Hall of Fame. Presently, I am the golf professional at Pitcher’s Pond Golf Course in Whiteway, Newfoundland, where I teach two junior camps consisting of 60 children four mornings per week. I also conduct men’s and women’s clinics and teach private lessons.

I want to thank the USGTF instructional team for a job well done, and kudos to all the participants who make the learning process so enjoyable. Bless us all.
